What would you say if I told you most business owners are 50% worse off financially than their own employees?
It’s a statistic that’s shocking, but is reality for most business owners.
On average, business owners only have 50% of the personal wealth of employees who stayed in salaried jobs.
And when the owners reach the end of their working life, 80% of these businesses end up closing their doors for good. That’s right. The business isn’t sold for a profit or passed on to someone who has been trained to carry on a proud legacy. These businesses that the owners have worked so hard to build simply disappear.
Business Owners Without A Legacy
Often business owners are left with nothing to show for the years they poured their heart and soul into creating something they thought would last forever. Why does this happen? Because most business owners are codependent on their business.
Instead of working to build a rich personal life outside of work, they see their business as a core part of their identity. They can’t separate the two. When they need something in their personal life, they go to the business to find fulfillment instead of building personal relationships. This isn’t healthy or helpful!
When your personal and business worlds are so intertwined, uncertainty and stress are created in both worlds. Where there is uncertainty, there is also hesitation and fear for the future. So how can we stop this stop this fear and uncertainty in it’s tracks? How do we create the freedom you were aiming for when you decided to start your own business?
By embracing the radical idea that freedom doesn’t come from inside your business, it lives outside it.
Let me say that again.
Freedom doesn’t come from inside your business. Freedom lives outside your business.
Why Did You Start Your Business?
You probably started your business as a way to express yourself. You wanted to share your gifts and to make the world a better place. It’s why you put so much of yourself into running it in the first place.
The truth is, creating Freedom outside your business may be the only way to truly express your gifts to the world and have the impact you desire. Use your work to improve your life—without letting work becoming the center of your life.
Your business is not you. Express yourself through your business, but don’t let it define you as a person. Rather than live life for your business, live life for you. Use your business as a transitional pathway to freedom.
Getting Your Freedom
You’ve worked too long and too hard to end up 50% worse off than your employees! To live your life knowing that when you stop working, either by choice or by circumstance, your business will disappear is unacceptable.
